Over the years, large quantities of soil have been washed away by the river, and this has led to the formation of long sandbanks, and to shallows in the river.

Solution

In order to prevent washout of fine particles it was decided to install a layer of TenCate Polyfelt® F70 immediately above the sand layer. The geotextile was installed during the winter season while the water level is very low.

In choosing TenCate Polyfelt® F70 as a separation and filtration layer, the client was convinced by its excellent mechanical properties, especially CBR resistance, and by its filtration properties. These combined with high UV stability secure the following advantages: TenCate Polyfelt® F70 stabilizes the soil skeleton adjacent to the fabric thus allowing the initial passage of time, unstable particles while maintaining free, long-term water flow.
